  6. TIFF-format photo images ever offered on CD-ROM for the Mac and Windows.

  9. TO BEGIN USING FOR PC: 
  10. The Kudo application and all the catalogues reside only on disc 6. Insert the CD into your
  11. CD-ROM drive and type GO. Follow the installer instructions. Every time after installation 
  12. look for the Kudo Program group in Windows and run. Insert whatever disc is asked for 
  13. by Kudo. 
  14.  
  15. NOTE TO PC USERS: It was not possible to put the 21.5 MB catalogue onto every CD - there
  16. wasn't enough space. Therefore, whenever you use Kudo (only on disc 6) and wish to preview
  17. an image (by double-clicking on that image), you will be asked to insert the correct disc (unless
  18. the desired image is on disc 6 in which case the image will be automatically displayed). BEFORE
  19. you preview another image you must FIRST put Disc 6 back into your CD-ROM drive.

  21. Also, if you wish to preview the image in a larger format than "thumbnail" then select "image"
  22. from the pull-down menu then select "Display Original". If you double-click on a thumbnail, Kudo
  23. will attempt to load whatever application you own and which is "associated" with a "TIF" type
  24. file. For example, Kudo may try to start up Corel's PhotoPaint, Adobe's Photoshop or Microsoft
  25. Paint. If there is no "TIF" association or the application no longer exists that used to be
  26. "associated" with TIF files, then you will be asked to look for it. Just cancel and use the "Display
  27. Original" feature described earlier.

  30. TO BEGIN USING FOR MAC: The Fetch application is on every CD. WHILE HOLDING
  31. DOWN THE "ALT Option" KEY, insert the desired CD (or any CD) into your CD-ROM 
  32. drive. Then double-click on the Fetch application or drag-and-drop one of the Fetch catalogues
  33. on top of the Fetch application.

  35. There are some incompatibilities between the old file system of earlier Mac operating systems
  36. and more recent Mac/OS versions. Holding down the "ALT Option" key while inserting the CD
  37. into your CD-ROM drive ensures that the proper file name is associated with the Fetch thumbnail
  38. image. If you do not hold down the option key while mounting the CD, you will still be able to
  39. view all the thumbnails but when you double-click on an image, you will not be able to view it in
  40. its larger format.

  54. The World PhotoCube Multimedia Collection contains over 3,000 72 dpi, 24-bit RGB,
  55. noncompressed TIFF images, each averaging about 1.2 MB, and all suitable for screen
  56. display and small image printing.

  58. All images are noncompressed TIFF format using the universal ISO 9660 
  59. standard for CD-ROM.  This permits any CD-ROM disc in the World PhotoCube
  60. Collection to be read by either Macintosh or MS-DOS-compatible machines. It also means
  61. all these images are also import-able by almost all image-handling applications available in
  62. those same computing environments.

  65. into one massive collection and cross-indexed against 22 general categories,

  113. For PC Windows users Aztech has included Kudo For Windows, a full-featured browser
  114. and manager with a variety of powerful search and display capabilities.

  116. The catalogues for all the images (for Mac & PC) have already been compiled for your
  117. benefit. Each CD in The World PhotoCube is packaged in protective CD "jewel cases" thus
  118. providing a measure of added protection as well as a place for storage for each CD.

  121. OTHER FACTS

  123. Including the "printable" version on 24 additional CD's (which may be ordered separately,
  124. the total World PhotoCube Collection comprises over 15,000 megabytes (15 GB!) 
  125. and required over 120,000 MB of backup capability, using mostly 8 mm 
  126. Exabyte. Aztech utilized 12 high-performance computing machines over a 
  127. standard Ethernet backbone in order to create and assemble this collection.

  129. Machine configurations included 3 Quadra 950's, 1 Quadra 900, 1 Quadra 800 
  130. and 2 MS-DOS-compatible 486/66 PC's. Total RAM (memory) for all the machines 
  131. was in excess of 550 MB. A Kodak Prophecy System was used to color-correct 
  132. all the high-resolution images in the High Resolution Printable Image 
  133. Collection. 2 double-speed compact disc recorders (CD-R) were employed to
  134. create the pre-masters.

  138. THE WORLD PHOTOPHILE COLLECTION, PRINT VERSION
  139.  
  140. The World Photophile Collection, Printable version is the high-resolution version of the
  141. World PhotoCube and is available directly from Aztech. The images are identical to the World
  142. PhotoCube except tha they are much larger in size and have been specifically prepared for
  143. high-resolution print output. Each image is 32-bit, CMYK (ie. already color-separated),
  144. color-corrected, noncompressed TIFF at 300 dpi giving a 150 line screen.

  146. This series comprises 24 CD  which are divided into two editions. Edition 1 has the first
  147. half of the images (1,500 or so, countries Argentina through first half of Hong Kong) and
  148. edition 2 has the second half (second half of Hong Kong through United States).

  225. Aztech New Media Corp. is a publisher of intellectual property on CD-ROM for the global
  226. market. As of late 1995 the Company has published 47 license and royalty-free
  227. photographic image titles, 6 commercial games titles, 5 license and royalty-free music titles,
  228. 3 general reference titles, 36 shareware titles,  14 multi-pack collections, and a variety of
  229. custom titles for bundling purposes, including a 12-CD multilingual set. Aztech has
  230. introduced two 10-CD-ROM software bundle packs called Publishers' Pick Blue and
  231. Publishers' Pick Green, five 7-CD-ROM "Cube" trademarked compilations and five 4-CD-
  232. ROM "Album" trademarked packs. Recently, Aztech introduced a 48-CD series titled The
  233. Home@Office Suite featuring such titles as Harvard Graphics, Hutchinson Multimedia
  234. Encyclopedia, Peter Norton's Windows 95 Tutorial, Pressworks, 1st Design, Bizforms,
  235. Maximizer, and Xerox's TextBridge. This collection comprises everything one might need
  236. to produce a printed item or multimedia presentation. Aztech manufactures under license
  237. every title in every pack.

  239. A particularly popular multi-pack targeted specifically for Macintosh owners includes such
  240. titles as The 7th Guest, Harpoon II, and Dragon's Lair.

  242. After producing its first few shareware titles in 1992, Aztech acquired the rights to
  243. manufacture The Case of the Cautious Condor and Murder Makes Strange Deadfellows,
  244. two of the world's first truly interactive, award-winning, comic book-styled murder mysteries.
  245. Aztech's most ambitious project was The PhotoPhileTM World Stock Image Library, a
  246. 31-CD set of high-resolution photographic images from 40 countries around the world, and
  247. cross-referenced by 22 thematic categories. It was over six months in the making. The
  248. Photophile Library was the world's first, and still is the world's largest, compilation of
  249. annotated, printable quality, color-corrected photographic images ever offered on
  250. CD-ROM. The Photophile Library is about 18 gigabytes (18 billion bytes) in size. The tape
  251. backup requirements during development were about half a terabyte (0.5 trillion bytes).

  253. Aztech's products have been well-received in the global marketplace. In lateSpring, 1994,
  254. Aztech developed a European top-ten 12-CD collection titled, TheHome Entertainment
  255. and Professional Multimedia Collection. In the first six weeks of introduction, over 100,000
  256. cd's were sold from this collection. Two other titles have sold over 70,000 and 100,000
  257. copies respectively in less than six months of each title's release. Series 1 of The Cube was
  258. rated in the top 15 for over 5 months in 1995 on the Bestseller List of New Media
  259. Magazine, achieving #12 in August 1995.
